France is in crisis. But France is not alone. The French (possibly the British too) will probably go to the polls within a year. The chaos may grow violent when, as predicted, the hard right anti-immigrant and EU sceptics come to power. After Marx’s The Civil War in France, the new version of the book could well be written from the other side of the aisle this time.

The French lower Court decision March 31 to bar the 2027 presidential election favorite, Marine Le Pen, from running has angered millions throughout the country, sparked fears of social unrest and widespread political condemnation, including from the far left.
The ripples have been felt to the summit of the state and the system looked desperately on April 1 for a way to backtrack, if not stave off, at least put off, a social confrontation.
The Appeals Court, which usually takes two years to hear a case, said it will begin the trial next January for a decision upholding or invalidating the lower court’s ruling in June 2026, which would give Marine Le Pen, and her far right National Rally party, if the first ruling is overturned or reduced, nine months to prepare for the 2027 ballot.

The 2022 French elections were so catastrophic, I fear the country could really face what alarmist pundits call the ‘coming civil war’ and fall apart at the seams in the next couple of years. Does this sound like scaremongering? Read on.
Whether Eric Zemmour announces his candidacy on December 5 at a major rally in Paris or not, he has already won the presidential elections. His tough talk defending his vision of France, its culture and history, what he calls a “civilizational battle” against “an immigrant invasion imposing a foreign civilisation on France,” has determined what the next president must promise he will do once elected.
The Left and Greens have been reduced to ashes where most hover between one and eight percent of voter intent, and Macron can do at best in the first round vote 23%. The big question is will people vote this time? Zemmour may be the catalyst but he is a victim of his own success.
Steve Bannon has plans for France and is taking a keen interest in the rising right-wing pundit, Eric Zemmour, a French born Berber (North African Arab) Jew who wants to Make France Great Again.
Massive abstention in French Regional Elections not only delegitimises the results, but demonstrates the French have lost confidence in the system. History shows that the French will vote with their feet in the streets. There will be blood.
If the French don’t mobilize for this Sunday’s second round of voting in Regional elections, it doesn’t mean they don’t care. It just means they will find a different, more violent, way to express themselves.
